SINSINAWA — Sr. Joan Pardell, OP, died June 4, 2019, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. Her religious name was Sister Victoriana. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, June 7, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Joan made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1953, and her perpetual profession August 5, 1956. She taught for 21 years and served as principal for 28 years and pastoral minister for 10 years. Sister Joan served in Wisconsin, Illinois, and New York.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Joan taught at St. Rose, Cuba City, 1953-1955, and served as principal at St. Mary, Portage, 1974-1981, and St. Joseph, Baraboo, 1981-1984.
Sister Joan was born August 25, 1933, in Chicago, the daughter of John and Victoria (Kulovitz) Pardell. Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by two brothers, John “Jack” Pardell and Kenneth Pardell; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 65 years of Religious life.
