SINSINAWA — Sr. Jeanne Flanagan, OP, died Jan. 14, 2017, at St. Dominic Villa. Her religious name was Sr. John Dominici. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, January 23, 2017, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Jeanne made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1949, and her final profession August 5, 1952. She taught for 10 years and served as principal for eight years and dean of girls for one year. Sister Jeanne ministered in leadership for the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation for eight years, adult religious education for eight years, diocesan religious education for 11 years, and spiritual direction and scripture study for 19 years. She served in Minnesota, Wyoming, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Illinois, Oklahoma, and Texas.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Jeanne ministered as spiritual director and scripture teacher at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 1996-2015.
Sister Jeanne was born May 30, 1925, in Chicago, the daughter of John and Loretta (Gillen) Flanagan. Her parents and a sister, MariLu Matre, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 67 years.
