SINSINAWA — Sister Janette Wicker, OP, died Jan. 29 2023, at St. Elizabeth Manor, Footville, Wis. Her religious name was Sister Juditha. Natural burial took place Feb. 1 in the Motherhouse Cemetery. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Feb. 10.
Sister Janette made her first profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Aug. 5, 1954, and her perpetual profession Aug. 5, 1957. She ministered in education as teacher for 10 years, principal for 16 years and coprincipal for 13 years, Sister Janette served as religion coordinator for nine years, liturgist for 10 years, pastoral associate for two years and librarian for 10 years. She loved to be around people. Her attention to detail, sense of humor and generous spirit have made the world a better place. Sister Janette served in Illinois and Wisconsin.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Janette served as the librarian at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 2005-2015.
Sister Janette was born Sept. 25, 1931, in Denmark, Wis., the daughter of Joseph and Mathilda “Tillie” (Fogltanz) Wicker. Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 68 years of religious life.
