SINSINAWA, Wis. — Sr. Gloria Higgins, OP, died August 30, 2018. Her religious name was Sister Amabilis. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Sept. 7, 2018, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Gloria made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 7, 1941, and her final profession August 7, 1944. She taught for 35 years, served as business office staff for 28 years, and ministered in family care for one year. Sister Gloria served in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri,and Illinois.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Gloria taught at St. Jerome, Columbus, 1967-1970 and 1982-1984, and St. Rose, Cuba City, 1980-1982 and 1984-1985. She ministered in the Business Office at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 1971-1979. She ministered in family care in Beloit, 1979-1980.
Sister Gloria was born January 29, 1922, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Leonard and Genevieve (Brossard) Higgins. Her parents; a sister, Marion Scriven; and a brother, Gerald Higgins, preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Lucia Higgins; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 77 years of religious life
