SINSINAWA — Sr. Frances Therese Murray, OP, died July 9, 2016, at St. Dominic Villa. Her religious name was Sister Mary Daniel. The funeral Mass was held in the Gathering Place chapel at Sinsinawa July 13, 2016, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sr. Frances Therese made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican March 9, 1941, and her final profession Aug. 7, 1944. She ministered in education for 45 years, as a hospital chaplain for eight years, and in various roles for the Sinsinawa Dominican congregation for 11 years.
Sr. Frances Therese served in Illinois, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming and Minnesota. In the Diocese of Madison, Sr. Frances Therese taught at Edgewood High, Madison, 1941 to 1942, and served at the Sinsinawa Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, as support staff in the Development Office, 1986 to 1987; with the pastoral ministers, 2000 to 2001; and in various areas, 2002 to 2005.
Sr. Frances Therese was born June 5, 1914, in Chicago, the daughter of Daniel and Lucy (Roche) Murray. Her parents; three sisters, Honor Mungovan, Lucille Keane, and Marion O’Murray; and three brothers, Roche Murray, the Rev. Daniel Murray, and James Murray, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 75 years.
