SINSINAWA — Sr. Florus Castle, OP, died July 25, 2015, at St. Dominic Villa. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa July 28, 2015, followed by burial in the motherhouse cemetery.
Sister Florus made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1950, and her final profession August 5, 1953. She taught for 24 years, ministered in Bolivia for two years, and served as a secretary for 22 years. Sister Florus served in the District of Columbia, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Bolivia.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Florus taught at St. Clara Academy, Sinsinawa, 1958-1967, and served as secretary in the Secretary General Office, Sinsinawa, 1978-1982.
Sister Florus was born August 29, 1922, in Oshkosh, the daughter of William and Florence (Reilly) Castle. Her parents; two sisters, Mary Minehan and Peggy Buckstaff; and two brothers, William Castle and Edward Castle, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 64 years.
