SINSINAWA — Sr. Eduarda Makal, OP, died June 30, 2021, at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Wis. The funeral Mass was held at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, July 12, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Eduarda made her first profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Aug. 5, 1954, and her perpetual profession Aug. 5, 1957. She taught for 54 years and served in pastoral care for one year. Sister Eduarda lived her life with graciousness and focused on hospitality. She served the people of God in her gentle, kind, and generous way in Illinois, New Jersey, California, Wisconsin and New York.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Eduarda taught at St. Mary, Portage, 1979-1982, and ministered as a volunteer pastoral caregiver at the motherhouse and St. Dominic Villa, 2009-2019.
Sister Eduarda was born July 7, 1933, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Lukacek) Makal. Her parents and a brother, James Makal, preceded her in death. She is survived by cousins and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 66 years of religious life.
