SINSINAWA — Sister Dorothea Snaer, OP, died Sept. 27, 2021, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. Her religious name was Sister Guillaume. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Oct. 1, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Dorothea made her first profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Aug. 5, 1958, and her perpetual profession Aug. 5, 1961. She taught French for 46 years in high schools and a college. Her faith was strong, and Sister Dorothea was dedicated to her family, especially her mother, and the people of the parish she served as visitor to the sick for 14 years. She loved language, even setting her smartphone to French. She served in Illinois, Wisconsin and California.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Dorothea taught at Edgewood College, Madison, 1979-1995.
Sister Dorothea was born Nov. 17, 1934, in Glendale, Calif., the daughter of Bernard and Anna (Ratigan) Snarer. Her parents and a brother, William Snaer, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 63 years of religious life.
