SINSINAWA — Sr. Catherine Harrington, OP, died October 9, 2016, at St. Dominic Villa. Her religious name was Sr. Martinelle. The funeral Mass was held in the Gathering Place chapel at Sinsinawa October 12, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sr. Catherine made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1935, and her final profession August 5, 1938. She taught for 25 years and served as principal for 19 years and librarian for nine years.
Sr. Catherine served the Sinsinawa Dominican congregation in leadership and supportive roles for 13 years. She served in Illinois, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sr. Catherine served the Sinsinawa Dominican congregation as the vicaress for the Northeast Province sisters at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 1979-1982.
Sr. Catherine was born May 12, 1915, in Reedsburg, Wis., the daughter of Martin and Helen “Nellie” (Keegan) Harrington. Her parents; three sisters, Helen Harrington, Alice Harrington, and Lucille Harrington; and two brothers, Patrick Harrington and John Harrington, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 81 years.
