SINSINAWA — Sr. Catherine Cox, OP, died May 15, 2022, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. Her religious name was Sister Anne Mary. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, May 20, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Catherine made her first profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Aug. 5, 1961, and her perpetual profession Aug. 5, 1966. She taught for 33 years and was principal for five years. In other areas of education, Sister Catherine served as counselor and supervisor of a Resource Learning Center for four years, assistant superintendent of teachers for three years and teacher personnel supervisor for four years. She loved children of the primary grades most of all. Sister Catherine loved to laugh and play and delight in the lives of the young. She was most at peace in their presence. She served in Illinois, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
Sister Catherine was born Oct. 5, 1941, in Hazel Green, Wis., the daughter of Everett and Anna (Joyce) Cox. Her parents; three sisters, Mary Rosenbush, Ruth Cox, and Doris Cox; and a brother, John Cox, preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Carol McPheeters; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 60 years of religious life.
