SINSINAWA, Wis. — Sister Anna Maria Knothe, OP, died June 2, 2020, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, June 9, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Anna Maria made her first religious profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Aug. 5, 1954, and her perpetual profession Aug. 5, 1957. She taught for 36 years and served as support staff for 12 years and volunteered for five years. Sister Anna Maria served in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Anna Maria taught at St. Mary, Portage, 1954-1955 and 1971-1973, and St. Dennis, Madison, 1973-1978. She served at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, as support staff in the Arrangements Office, 1990-2002, and volunteer, 2002-2007.
Sister Anna Maria was born Dec. 15, 1932, in La Crosse, Wis., the daughter of Henry and Anna Marie (Holthaus) Knothe. Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by distant cousins and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 65 years of religious life.
