SINSINAWA — Sr. Angela Donovan, OP, died May 23, 2021, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. Natural burial took place May 25 in the Motherhouse Cemetery. The funeral Mass was held at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, June 2.
Sister Angela made her first religious profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Aug. 5, 1950, and her perpetual profession Aug. 5, 1953. She taught for 29 years and served as principal for six years and tutor for one year. Sister Angela ministered as chaplain for eight years, in mission effectiveness for 11 years and as convent prioress for six years. Sr. Angela gave her best to everything she did and to everyone she met. Her calm demeanor and profound presence to others were gifts she freely shared. She served in Minnesota, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Iowa, Illinois, Louisiana and Arizona.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Angela taught at St. Rose, Cuba City, 1953-1956; St. Dennis, Madison, 1960-1966, where she was also the founding principal; and Edgewood College, 1976-1987. She served as the mail room director at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 2006-2014.
Sister Angela was born April 1, 1930, in Chicago, the daughter of Jerome and Angela (Cusick) Donovan. Her parents and two brothers, Jerome Donovan and James Donovan, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 70 years.
