SINSINAWA, Wis. — Sr. Alyce Kelly, OP, died January 24, 2019, at St. Dominic Villa. Her religious name was Sr. Stellan. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, January 28, 2019, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Alyce made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1953, and her perpetual profession August 5, 1956. She taught for 17 years and served as director of religious education for 13 years, family caregiver for one year, and pastoral associate and parish administrator for 18 years. Sr. Alyce served in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Hawaii.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Alyce served as director of religious education at Queen of Peace Parish, Madison, 1970-1983; and volunteered at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa, teaching English as a second language and reading to people with sight impairments.
Sister Alyce was born June 1, 1930, in Chicago, the daughter of Edward and Stella (Moroney) Kelly. Her parents and two Sisters, Rosemary Kelly and Sr. Dorothy (Benetta) Kelly, OP, preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Sr. Kathleen “Kay” Kelly, SP, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 65 years of Religious life.
