SINSINAWA — Sr. Alexis Searfoss, OP, died October 30, 2016, at St. Dominic Villa. The funeral Mass was held in the Gathering Place chapel at Sinsinawa November 3, 2016, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sr. Alexis made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1943, and her final profession August 5, 1946. She taught for 25 years; ministered as principal for 23 years; and served as pastoral minister for 11 years. She served in Wisconsin, Illinois, and New Jersey.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sr. Alexis served as co-principal and taught at Sacred Heart, Reedsburg, 1970-1977, and as principal at St. Rose, Cuba City, 1981-1985.
Sr. Alexis was born January 22, 1923, in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Sullivan) Searfoss. Her parents; three sisters, Alice Searfoss, Virginia Thorne, and Sr. Annora Searfoss, OP; and a brother, Frank Searfoss, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, cousins, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 73 years.
