SINSINAWA — Sister Mary Ann Heyd, OP, died Sept. 6, 2020, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. Her religious name was Sister Wilberta. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Sept. 11, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Mary Ann made her first religious profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Aug. 5, 1952, and her perpetual profession Aug. 5, 1955. She taught for 31 years and served as director of religious education for seven years, subprioress and liturgist for three years, pastoral associate for eight years, family care giver for eight years, and community visitor for two years. Sister Mary Ann served in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, New York, Nebraska and Kentucky.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Mary ministered as director of religious education at St. Mary, Portage, 1974-1978, and taught at St. Rose, Cuba City, 1985-1987. She served as family care giver at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, 2002-201.
Sister Mary Ann was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of Wilbert and Alice (Martin) Heyd. Her parents and two brothers, Charles Heyd and the Reverend Joseph Heyd, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sisters, Joanne Schaber and Patricia Callaway; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 68 years of religious life.
