ROME — Andrew Showers, a seminarian of the Diocese of Madison, will be ordained as a transitional deacon on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 9:30 a.m. at the Altar of the Chair at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
Cardinal Seán O’Malley of Boston will ordain Showers and 29 other men from around the United States. A transitional deacon has completed his third year of theology studies and intends to be ordained as a priest.
Showers will participate as a deacon in a Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated by Bishop Robert C. Morlino of Madison on Friday, Sept. 30, at 10:30 a.m. in the Basilica of Sant’Agostino in Rome.
Showers is the son of Pam and Dave Showers of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Monona. He attended Schenk Elementary School, Whitehorse Middle School, and La Follette High School in Madison and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in architecture.
His pre-theology studies were taken at St. Paul Seminary at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., and his theology studies at the Pontifical North American College in Rome while studying at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (Santa Croce), where he is in his third year of theology studies.
