SUN PRAIRIE — As his Eagle Scout project, Phillip Fonfara — with the help of Boy Scout Troop 333 — built a living Advent wreath for Sacred Hearts Parish in Sun Prairie.
Fonfara and the troop worked on the project last summer. It features four pine trees surrounded by bushes.
Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt, pastor, blessed the Advent wreath after Mass on the weekend of the first Sunday of Advent.
Fonfara wanted to give something back to his parish, especially since Sacred Hearts opened its doors to the Boy Scout troop after their former meeting site was not available. “I wanted to show my appreciation to the parish,” said Fonfara.
Fonfara was recently presented with one of the Diocese of Madison Catholic Charities’ Youth Faith in Action Awards given to deserving high school seniors who put their faith into action. Fonfara is a senior at Madison’s Edgewood High School and is actively involved at Sacred Hearts Parish and in community organizations.
