PRINCETON — Pastor Fr. Dale Grubba is planning a Hawaiian shirt/apparel weekend October 3 and 4 to go with the annual St. John Catholic School Gala. Parishioners and visitors are invited to wear Hawaiian apparel to Masses at St. James Church in Neshkoro and St. John Church in Princeton.
The Gala takes place on Saturday, Oct. 3, in St John Catholic School gym, 125 Church St. Dinner reservations may be made by contacting Alyssa Cattanach at 920-295-4275 or Mary Soda at 920-295-3078.
“I had been planning a sermon based on the colorful sport coats that the late Wisconsin race and rock concert promoter, Sam Bartus, wore. Sam had a seamstress who fashioned them out of drapery and bed spread material. He had 200 of them,” said Father Grubba.“They were a part of a daily wardrobe that included a mink bowtie, paisley shirts, bright colored pants, and jewelry.
“In making plans for this weekend sermon, I began to think of the theme for this year’s St. John School Gala, which is ‘The Treasures of the Islands.’ It seemed that the two themes, the Gala’s and Sam’s colorful sport coats, could be combined for a spirit filled weekend. It is going to be a weekend to remember.”
