MADISON — The diocesan community continues to pray for the soul of the late Msgr. Delbert Schmelzer. Bishop Robert C. Morlino requested that the Tridentine Mass Society of Madison organize a “Month’s Mind” Mass for Monsignor Del.
The “Month’s Mind” tradition involves celebration of a Requiem Mass one month after a person’s death. The Roman Missal always included Mass texts for the day of death and of burial as well as for the third, seventh, 30th, day and one-year marks thereafter.
The date for the Requiem Mass is Monday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. at Holy Name Heights/Bishop O’Connor Center Chapel. Bishop Morlino will be the celebrant. The music will be the Missa Defunctorum for four voices by Tomás Luis de Victoria as well as Gregorian Chant.
Many lay people and priests were not able to attend Monsignor Schmelzer’s daytime funeral Mass on July 8. The Requiem Mass in the evening is an opportunity to pray in a special way for the repose of the soul of a beloved priest who touched so many people in his 60 years of priesthood.
All are welcome. Clerics are invited to participate in choir dress. For more information, contact Fr. John Zuhlsdorf at frz@wdtprs.com
