MUSCODA — Fr. Thomas Sullivan will begin a renewal mission for the members of the new forming Corpus Christi Parish and anyone else who would like to hear him preach the Word of God.
Father Sullivan will give the homily at each Mass celebrated in Boscobel, Muscoda, and Avoca on Saturday, Feb. 6, and Sunday, Feb. 7.
He will offer Mass followed by a movie Monday through Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist site in Muscoda. Coffee and doughnuts will be severed at the movie and discussion session.
Monday through Thursday evening Father Sullivan will preach at 7 p.m. at the St. John the Baptist site in Muscoda on the theme of God’s mercy. Thursday evening will also include Mass and a dinner.
He will encourage the community to make a stronger commitment to Christ, his Church, and the sacraments, speaking on such topics as the Holy Blessed Sacrament, the Blessed Virgin Mary, mercy of God, ten commandments, and the angels and saints. Eucharistic Adoration and Reconciliation will be available.
Persons who attend at least several of the mission services during the week, including the closing Mass on Thursday, have the opportunity to receive a plenary indulgence, which remits all temporal punishment due to sin that the person has incurred to that point in his or her life.
Requirements to receive this indulgence are: attendance at Mass and reception of Communion in the state of grace; Confession within eight days of the close of the mission; prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father (at least one Our Father and one Hail Mary); and detachment from all sin.
Father Sullivan is a member of the Fathers of Mercy headquartered in Kentucky. The congregation, founded in 1808 as “the Missionaries of France” to re-evangelize the French people after years of attacks and persecution, is now exclusively an American community conducting parish missions and retreats.
Father Sullivan was ordained to the priesthood in 2004. Prior to his joining the Fathers of Mercy, he owned and operated his own roofing company and worked with the Missionaries of Charity throughout the world and with the Padre Pio Center in Barto, Penn.
All people, Catholics and non-Catholics alike, are invited to come and hear Father Sullivan preach “The Mercy of God.” For further information, call 608-375-4257.
