MADISON — At the Presbyteral Assembly in 2015, Bishop Robert C. Morlino made a request that pastors use the Mass Propers, specifically the Entrance and Communion antiphons, more frequently.
In response to that request, the diocesan Office of Worship is offering a two-hour workshop called “Understanding Mass Propers.” Priests, deacons, liturgists, musicians, and others involved in music and liturgy are encouraged to attend.
The first workshop took place on July 12. There are two more scheduled this summer on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at St. John the Baptist Parish in Montello and Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Bishop O’Connor Center, Madison, from 7 to 9 p.m.To host a workshop at your parish, contact Patrick Gorman at worship@straphael.org or 608-821-3080.
The workshop will cover what a “Proper Antiphon” is, how and why these antiphons can be used today, and strategies for introducing them. Participants will also have a chance to learn repertoire in English.
“I think this is another step forward in implementing the liturgical vision of the Second Vatican Council and the current Order of Mass,” said Gorman.
