MADISON — I have been with Pregnancy Helpline since 2011. When I joined, I had been a member of St. Maria Goretti’s Saint Vincent de Paul (SVDP) chapter for a few years.
Part of that ministry includes home visits, which is a chance to share and offer SVDP clients information about the different services that the county offers for those in need.

One of those services is Pregnancy Helpline. At one of our monthly SVDP fellowship gatherings, we were lucky to experience a tour of the Sharing Center with Alissa Hirscher, the executive director of Pregnancy Helpline.
Joins Pregnancy Helpline
After visiting and hearing Alissa’s enthusiastic description of all the services Pregnancy Helpline offers to Dane County families and women, I felt a call to switch to this group to continue serving our community and Church.
By then I was expecting my first child, which probably made me feel a stronger call to serve pregnant women and families with young children.
After receiving the training to be a phone volunteer, my very first call was a really tough case. The client was a 16-year-old girl from Mexico, like me.
Helping her was challenging, but an incentive to work harder for my Spanish-speaking community. Eventually I accepted the invitation to be part of the Pregnancy Helpline Board of Directors as the Spanish Liaison.
Need bilingual volunteers
Right now Pregnancy Helpline is working hard to recruit bilingual candidates interested in becoming phone volunteers.
If you are interested in joining our bilingual team, please call me! I can be reached at 608-347-0241 and I’ll be glad to answer questions and to share this stirring ministry with you.
