SINSINAWA, Wis. — Sr. Mary Fox, OP, died May 26, 2020, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. Her religious name was Sr. Ora. The funeral Mass will be held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa, June 1, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Mary made her first religious profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Nov. 28, 1950, and her perpetual profession Nov. 28, 1953. She served in education as a teacher for 21 years and administrator for 11 years. In parish ministries, Sr. Mary taught catechetics for three years, was a director of religious formation for 13 years, and served as a community liaison for 10 years. She served in various positions for the Sinsinawa Dominican congregation for eight years. Sr. Mary always had a warm smile and open heart. She served in Illinois, Montana, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Florida, and Oklahoma.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Mary taught at St. Patrick, Madison, 1964-1967. She served the Sinsinawa Dominican congregation as vicaress provincial for the Southeast Province, 1976-1980; as the administrator of Sinsinawa Mound, 1989-1990; and as director of Campus Services, 1990-1993. Sister Mary was a parish volunteer at St. Patrick, Benton, 2007-2017, where she also welcomed people interested in the history of Fr. Samuel Mazzuchelli, OP (1806-1864).
Sister Mary was born Dec. 25, 1930, in Benton, Wis., the daughter of Clarence and Meta (Temple) Fox. Her parents; a sister, Ora Ware; and an infant brother, James Temple Fox, preceded her in death. She is survived by two brothers, Leonard Peacock and Jim Fox; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 69 years of religious life.
