SINSINAWA — Sinsinawa Dominican Sister Maristella Goebel died Jan. 24, 2011, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa Feb. 1, 2011, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Maristella made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican March 8, 1935, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1938. She taught at all levels of education for 26 years and ministered as a psychologist for 29 years. Sister Maristella was a researcher and writer for eight years. She served in Illinois, Wisconsin, South Dakota and Alabama.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Maristella taught at Blessed Sacrament, Madison, 1944-1945. She served as a clinical psychologist at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 1965-1967.
Sister Maristella was born Sept. 10, 1915, in Racine, Wis., the daughter of James and Henrietta (Rademacher) Goebel. Her parents; and two sisters, Muriel Bischoffer and Ramona Pittelkow, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sisters, Dolores Doetsch and Patricia Morris; two brothers, Thomas Goebel and James Goebel; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 75 years.
