SINSINAWA — Dominican Sister Marian Harty (Raymond Capua) died September 20, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa on September 23, 2010, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Marian made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1954, and her final profession August 5, 1957. She ministered in education for 50 years. Sr. Marian served in Nebraska, Wisconsin and Illinois.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sr. Marian ministered at Edgewood College, Madison, for 44 years as teacher, academic dean, and tutor. While working at Edgewood, she served the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation as financial officer for the Northwest Province, 1999-2006. She taught at Madison Area Technical College, Madison, 2009-2010.
Sister Marian was born September 23, 1932, in Shullsburg, Wis., the daughter of Thomas and Clara (O’Donnell) Harty. Her parents and a sister, Clara Grogan, preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Jo Ann O’Flahrity; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 56 years.
