SINSINAWA — Dominican Sister Roque Cunningham died Jan. 29, 2010, at Lancaster Care Center, Lancaster, Wis. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa Feb. 5, 2010, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Roque made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Sept. 21, 1956, and her final profession Sept. 21, 1959. She ministered at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, for 25 years as sacristan, switchboard operator, and assistant in the General Finance Office and in the mail room. Sister Roque served as support staff for six years in high schools, as an electronic communicator for two years at the Chicago Board of Trade and as librarian for 13 years at Catholic schools. She also taught for four years. Sister Roque served in Wisconsin, Nebraska, Illinois, Minnesota and Texas.
* In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Roque ministered at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, as sacristan, 1956-1964 and 1966-1968; switchboard operator, 1956-1964 and 1989-2004; assistant in the General Finance Office, 1989-1993; and assistant in the mail room, 1956-1964.
Sister Roque was born Jan. 28, 1925, in Chicago, the daughter of Peter and Martha (Needham) Cunningham. Her parents; three sister, Martha Cunningham, Catherine Cunningham, and Mary Ann Johnson; and two brothers, James Cunningham and Peter Cunningham, preceded her in death. She is survived by one brother, Joseph Cunningham; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 53 years.
