SINSINAWA — Dominican Sister Ladislas Kust, OP, died Oct. 6, 2009, at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa Oct. 12, 2009, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery. Abbot Gary Neville, O.Praem, Sister Ladislas’ nephew, presided at the Mass.
Sister Ladislas made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1946, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1949. She ministered in the culinary arts for 30 years; as a teacher aide for 16 years, 12 of which were also as librarian; and in pastoral and home care for 12 years. Sister Ladislas served in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, New York and Illinois.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Ladislas ministered in the culinary arts at Edgewood Convent, Madison, 1948-1952, and the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 1955-1959 and 1966-1967.
Sister Ladislas was born Dec. 8, 1924, in Green Bay, Wis., the daughter of Matthias and Anna (Mellin) Kust. Her parents; five sisters, Lucille Kust, Julia Krumpos, Martha Fricke, Rita Buckarma, and Elaine Neville; and three brothers, Ladislas Kust, Robert Kust, and Donald Kust, preceded her in death. She is survived by a brother, Bernard Kust; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 63 years.
