SINSINAWA — Sr. Marie Kathleen Mitchell died January 14 at the Dominican Motherhouse, Sinsinawa. The Mass of Resurrection was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa January 19, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Marie Kathleen was born June 12, 1918, in Chicago. Sister Marie Kathleen made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican March 8, 1939, and her final profession August 5, 1942. She ministered for 65 years as teacher, pastoral minister, learning center director, administrative assistant, and English as a Second Language (ESL) tutor. Sister Marie Kathleen served in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Marie Kathleen taught at St. Patrick, Madison, 1943-1946; Holy Mother of Consolation, Oregon, 1966-1968; and St. Jerome, Columbus, 1968-1969. At the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, she served as support staff, 1939 and 2004, and in pastoral ministry, 1996-1998.
