SINSINAWA — Dominican Sister Marie Cecile Oberle died August 18 at Southwest Health Center, Cuba City. The Mass of Resurrection was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa August 22 followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Marie Cecile was born April 29, 1925, in Geneseo, Ill. Sister Marie Cecile made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1948, and her final profession August 5, 1951. She ministered for 31 years as a music and classroom teacher and 16 years as assistant principal, media, and technology instructor. Prior to retirement, Sister Marie Cecile served five years as the assistant prioress at the motherhouse and two years at Camp We Ha Kee, in Winter, Wis. She served in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Marie Cecile served as the assistant prioress of the motherhouse in Sinsinawa, 1996-2001.
