SINSINAWA — Dominican Sister Barbara Ott died December 18, 2007, at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa. The Mass of Resurrection was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa December 28, 2007, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Barbara was born March 18, 1944, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Ray and Dorothy (Muench) Ott. Sister Barbara made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 4, 1968, and her final profession August 26, 1973.
She ministered for 38 years as a teacher, guidance counselor, missionary, and social worker. Sister Barbara served as a member of the General Council of the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation, 1982-1990, and as director of Apostolic Volunteers (now Dominican Volunteers USA), 1980-1982. She served in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Florida, as well as Paraguay for four years.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Barbara taught at Blessed Sacrament, Madison, 1968-1969. She served the Congregation as a member of the General Council, 1982-1990.
