SINSINAWA — Sr. Marie Sean Sheehy died May 13, 2009, at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa. The Mass of Resurrection was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa May 18, 2009, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Marie Sean was born February 8, 1925, in Mason City, Iowa. Sister Marie Sean made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1945, and her final profession August 5, 1948. She taught elementary and junior high school for 41 years and served as a tutor for seven years. She ministered as a director of religious education for two years and at St. Dominic Villa, Dubuque, for one year. Her ministries took her to Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Colorado, and Iowa. In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Marie Sean taught at Queen of Peace, Madison, 1965-1967; Blessed Sacrament, Madison, 1974-1979; St. Joseph, Baraboo, 1979-1983; and Sacred Heart, Reedsburg, 1983. She ministered as the director of religious education at St. Bernard Parish, Middleton, 1973-1974.
