OMAHA, Neb. — Jesuit Father Jim Egan, who formerly served in Madison, died October 2 in Omaha, Neb.
He was born in Ponca, Neb., on April 13, 1935. In 1952, he joined the Society of Jesus at St. Stanislaus Seminary in Florissant, Mo., where he pronounced his first vows on August 15, 1954.
He did his theology studies at St. Marys College in St. Marys, Kan., where on June 9, 1965, he was ordained a priest.
In 1970 he undertook clinical pastoral education at Mendota State Hospital in Madison, Wis., and became hospital chaplain.
From 1972 to 1980 Father Egan was a campus minister at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1973 he pronounced his final vows at St. Paul’s University Catholic Center.
A memorial service for Father Egan will be held at St. Paul’s University Catholic Center, 723 State St., Madison, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21. All are welcome.
