SINSINAWA — Sr. Pancratius Ritacca, OP, died Feb. 4, 2010, at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa. The funeral Mass will be held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa Feb. 9, 2010, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Pancratius made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1939, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1942. She taught elementary school for 52 years, mainly first grade. Sister Pancratius spent nine years doing a variety of ministries including family care, religious education, home visits, sacristan and Bible study. She served in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Pancratius taught at St. Joseph, Baraboo, 1971-1976. Sister Pancratius was born Dec. 1, 1919, in Kenosha, Wis., the daughter of Joseph and Frances (Ruffalo) Ritacca. Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Joyce Holland; a brother, John Ritacca; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 70 years.
