SINSINAWA, Wis. — Sr. Marie Rita Waldron, OP, died June 2, 2012, at St. Dominic Villa. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa June 8, 2012, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Marie Rita made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Oct. 6, 1944, and her final profession Jan. 1, 1948. She taught for 28 years while also serving 10 years as business officer; tutored for four years; and ministered as support staff for 17 years. Sister Marie Rita served in Wisconsin and Illinois.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Marie Rita ministered at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, as support staff at St. Clara Academy, 1945-1946; teacher at St. Clara Academy, 1967-1968; tutor for adult education classes through Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, 1973-1977; secretary to the prioress of the Motherhouse, 1977-1982; and assistant to the secretary of the congregation, 1982-1993. She taught at Edgewood High, Madison, 1946-1957.
Sister Marie Rita was born April 16, 1916, in Chicago, the daughter of Patrick and Margaret Ellen (Walsh) Waldron. Her parents; a sister, Nora Sloan; and five brothers, Anthony Waldron, Austin Waldron, Patrick Waldron, Mark Waldron, and Edward Waldron, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 67 years.
