MADISON — Fr. Bernard Deitelhoff, a pastor emeritus of the Diocese of Madison, died June 19, 2012 at the age of 80 at his residence in Madison.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Cathedral Parish of St. Raphael in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 404 E. Main St., Madison, on Tuesday, June 26. Bishop Robert C. Morlino, bishop of Madison, was the principal celebrant, and Msgr. Kevin Holmes was the homilist.
Visitation was held at St. Patrick Church and a luncheon in St. Patrick Church Parish Hall followed Mass. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Diocese of Madison Cathedral Fund as requested by Father Deitelhoff.
Fr. Bernard Deitelhoff was born on January 21, 1930, in Madison, and was preceded in death by his parents, Herman H. and Elizabeth (Sennett) Deitelhoff.
After attending St. Bernard Grade School in Madison and St. Francis Minor Seminary in Milwaukee for High School, he continued his collegiate studies in Philosophy and Theology at St. Francis Major Seminary, Milwaukee. He was ordained by Bishop William P. O’Connor on May 25, 1957 at St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison.
Father Deitelhoff served the Diocese of Madison as Associate Pastor at St. Matthew Parish, Shullsburg; St. Paul Chapel, Madison; Holy Mother of Consolation Parish, Oregon; St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison; St. Joseph Parish, Argyle with Mission of St. Michael Parish, Yellowstone; and as Chaplain at St. Clare Hospital, Monroe. He retired in 2001. During his years of service to the Diocese of Madison, Father Deitelhoff served as Secretary and Master of Ceremonies to Most Reverend Jerome Hastrich, worked in the Marriage Tribunal, and ministered at Durwards Glen.
