MILWAUKEE — School Sister of St. Francis Catherine Guzy, 87, who served as a teacher, school principal, and an insurance agent, died January 17, 2012, at Sacred Heart Convent, Milwaukee. The daughter of Charles and Margaret Guzy, she was born April 21, 1924, in Pana, Illinois. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis June 13, 1941; made her first profession of vows June 21, 1943; and final (perpetual) vows June 21, 1949.
Sister Catherine is survived by a sister, Mary Ann (Marvin) Ellingson; a brother, Charles; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends; and the School Sisters of St. Francis with whom she shared life for 71 years.
Sister Catherine served as a teacher, principal and religious education coordinator in Wisconsin and South Dakota from 1945-1976. In the Diocese of Madison, Sister served at St. Mary School, Fennimore, 1967-1969; and as a religious education coordinator for the diocese from 1969-1976.
Following her teaching career, Sister became an insurance agent, serving the Madison area as a representative of Bankers Life & Casualty from 1977-2010. She retired in 2011, serving in the ministry of prayer and presence at Sacred Heart Convent, Milwaukee, until the time of her death.
A wake and Funeral Liturgy were held January 25 at St. Joseph Convent Chapel, Milwaukee, followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
