SINSINAWA — Sister Antoinette “Toni” Callahan, OP (Vincent Mary), died Jan. 17, 2012, at Swedish Medical Center, Denver, Colo. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa Jan. 28, 2012, followed by burial of the cremains in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Toni made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1951, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1954. She taught for 21 years; ministered as a guidance counselor for 10 years; served as pastoral associate for 17 years; ministered at Rosary College (now Dominican University) for three years; and served as artist in residence for five years. She was a lifelong learner and a seeker of justice.She served in Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Colorado and Trinidad.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Toni taught at Edgewood High, Madison, 1951-1957.
Sister Toni was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Chicago, the daughter of John and Irene (Kenney) Callahan. Her parents and a sister, Mary Fagan, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 60 years.
