SINSINAWA — Sr. Margaret Savoy Meicher, OP, died Nov. 11, 2011, at her home in Dubuque, Iowa. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa Nov. 16, 2011, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Margaret Savoy made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1953, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1956. She taught for 36 years; was support staff at St. Dominic Villa, Dubuque, Iowa, for four years; and volunteered in Dubuque at various organizations for 16 years. She served in Illinois, Minnesota, the District of Columbia, Wisconsin and Iowa.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Margaret Savoy taught at Sacred Heart, Reedsburg, 1973-1975; St. Mary, Portage, 1977; and St. John Vianney, Janesville, 1979-1981 and 1991.
Sister Margaret Savoy was born March 9, 1933, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Renz) Meicher. Her parents and three brothers, Anthony Meicher, Paul Meicher, and Joseph Meicher, preceded her in death. She is survived by a brother, Bernard Meicher, nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 58 years.
