SINSINAWA — Sr. Chiara Pauloni, OP, died Nov. 13, 2011, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa Nov. 18, 2011, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Chiara made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 7, 1941, and her final profession Aug. 7, 1944. She taught for 25 years and served as support staff at a school for four years. Sister Chiara spent eight years at Villa Schifanoia, Florence, Italy, where she earned her master’s degree. Sr. Chiara ministered as an artist in residence for 34 years. She served in Illinois, Wisconsin, Colorado, New Mexico, and Italy.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Chiara ministered as artist in residence at Veritas Studio, Madison, 1985-2001, and Veritas West Studio, Sinsinawa, 2001-2008.
Sister Chiara was born March 2, 1922, in Kenosha, Wis., the daughter of Henry and Ersilia (Crocenzi) Pauloni. Her parents; a sister, Gloria Mikolaicyk; and two brothers, Chet Pauloni and Fred Pauloni, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sisters, Mary Smolik and Joyce Tatem, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 70 years.
