School Sister of St. Francis Genevieve (Jonathan) Krantz, 96, who served as a nurse’s aide, sacristan, homemaker, and caretaker for the elderly in the Milwaukee and Madison areas, died November 10, 2011, at Sacred Heart Convent, Milwaukee, Wis.
The daughter of John and Maryann Krantz, she was born January 13, 1915, in Klevenville, Wis. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis June 13, 1940; made her first profession of vows June 21, 1942; and final (perpetual) vows June 21, 1948.
Sister Genevieve is survived by a sister, Sister Rita Krantz, SSSF; two brothers, Bert (Anna Mae) and Leo; nieces, nephews and other relatives; and the School Sisters of St. Francis community with whom she shared her life for 71 years.
Sister Genevieve served her entire career in Wisconsin. For nearly three decades, she worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Mary’s Hill Hospital, Milwaukee (1941-1970). She served as a homemaker at St. Matthew Parish, Milwaukee, 1970-1976; and St. Bruno Parish, Dousman, 1976-1984. She retired briefly in 1984, but resumed active ministry the following year and served for 10 years as a caretaker for the elderly in the Diocese of Madison. She retired for a second time in 1995, and served in the ministry of prayer and presence, first at the St. Joseph Center Motherhouse and then at Sacred Heart Convent, Milwaukee.
A wake and Funeral Liturgy were held November 14 at St. Joseph Convent Chapel, Milwaukee, with internment at Mount Olivet Cemetery November 15.
