SINSINAWA — Sr. Elwyn McHale, OP, died Nov. 19, 2011, at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa Nov. 30, 2011, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Elwyn made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1949, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1952. She taught in elementary and high schools for 19 years and at Rosary College/Dominican University, River Forest, Ill., for 40 years. Sr. Elwyn served in Minnesota, the District of Columbia, Wisconsin and Illinois.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Elwyn taught at Holy Mother of Consolation, Oregon, 1954-1962.
Sister Elwyn was born July 14, 1929, in Chicago, the daughter of Harry and Ella (Flynn) McHale. Her parents; two sisters, Mary Thomas and Sister Margaret McHale, OP (Celsus); and a brother, Harry McHale, preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 62 years.
