SINSINAWA — Sr. Marie Mark Yerkey, OP, died July 20, 2011, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa July 25, 2011, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sr. Marie Mark made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1945, and her final profession Aug. 5, 1948. She taught elementary school for 14 years, high school for 30 years, and adult education literacy classes for five years. Sister Marie Mark ministered at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, Wis., in the business office, the transportation department and the mail room. She served in Illinois, New York, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Marie Mark ministered at the Motherhouse in the business office and the transportation department, 1982-1986; the transportation department and the mail room, 1993-1996; and as a volunteer, 2001-2005.
Sister Marie Mark was born June 28, 1925, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Edward and Helen (Duffey) Yerkey. Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by a cousin, Marilyn Jacobs, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 65 years.
