SUN PRAIRIE — Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast of the United States on October 29, 2012. People are still recovering from the effects of the storm.
St. Albert the Great Parish in Sun Prairie is responding by coordinating two mission trips to help rebuild the damaged communities.
An adult mission trip for those ages 21 and older will be held from April 1 to 6. A youth mission trip will be held the week of June 23.
The youth trip is already filled. However, there are still openings for the adult mission trip, according to Lisa Kueter-Anderson of the St. Albert staff.
Coordinated by National Relief Network
This trip is being coordinated through the National Relief Network (NRN). The NRN is working in several regions of the East Coast. Among those are Breezy Point, New York, Hobokan, New Jersey, Staten Island, New York, and Toms River, N.J.
All of the these communities have suffered severe damage and will be the focus of the NRN’s efforts.
“If you would like to travel on this amazing journey, visit the St. Albert’s Web site www.saintal berts.org, click on Public Events for additional information and a registration form,” said Kueter-Anderson. She may also be reached at 608-837-3798, ext. 30, for more information.
“All are welcome. You do not need to be from St. Albert’s to participate, so feel free to invite and encourage your friends and relatives to join in this effort as well.”
Kueter-Anderson has been involved in over 20 youth mission trips, but she has never been involved with an adult trip. Volunteers will fill out skill sheets and indicate what skills they can offer, such as cleaning, painting, and carpentry work.
Youth mission trip
The youth group will be going to Milltown, N.J., the week of June 23. The youth were originally traveling to Tennessee, but with the great need to assist those affected by Hurricane Sandy, the youth trip was shifted to aid this greatly devastated area.
While the youth trip is already filled, people can support their trip with their prayers and by attending the Knights of Columbus fish fries on Friday evenings during Lent at the Round Table, 1611 North Bristol St.
