St. Dominic Pastorate will be hosting a Mazzuchelli pilgrimage on Sunday, Aug. 4.
Venerable Fr. Samuel Mazzuchelli, OP, was a Dominican priest who came to Southwest Wisconsin as a missionary in the mid-1800s.
He served Native Americans and Europeans in the area and built many churches and civic buildings, such as St. Patrick Church in Benton, St. Augustine Church in New Diggings, and St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City.
Whether you have made the pilgrimage in the past or are a newcomer, St. Dominic Pastorate invites you to join them in many of the Lord’s “dwelling places” on a new pilgrimage route.
This year, the pilgrimage begins with a tour of St. Augustine Church in New Diggings, located at 26291 High St., Shullsburg.
The tour is followed by a walk to St. Patrick Church in Benton. Pilgrims will attend Mass there followed by a luncheon.
There will then be an opportunity to visit Father Mazzuchelli’s grave site in Benton followed by a walk to St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City. At that stop, there will be an Adoration hour along with praise and worship music followed by a supper.
The total walk is approximately nine miles.
Pilgrims are encouraged to prepare for the journey by packing water, snacks, sunscreen, devotional items, and anything else they may need for walking outside.
