MADISON — The United States Council of Catholic Bishops’ Marriage Initiative encourages all of the dioceses in the U.S. to work together to create marriage enrichment and support for the marriages in our Church.
We want every parish to have a Marriage Ministry program and we hope that all married couples will work to enrich their relationship with their spouse.
There are many ways to enrich your marriage and enhance the Sacrament of Matrimony. Here are a couple of ways that every married couple should consider.
- Attend the free showing of the Fireproof movie at the Bishop O’Connor Center in Madison on Saturday, May 9, at 7 p.m.
- Attend a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend. They are scheduled monthly in the area. For information go to www.alifetimeoflove.org
Fireproof the movie
Here’s what some people had to say about the movie Fireproof:
“Last night Eddie and I watched the movie Fireproof. it came highly recommended to us by my awesome sister-in-law Ashli. This movie was amazing to say the least. If you are married you need to see this movie regardless of what stage or situation you are in your marriage.”
“I watched Fireproof at Covenant Vision Christian Church yesterday and a few points impacted me. . . . I really enjoyed the movie and I’d encourage everyone to watch it. If I had watched it in the cinemas, I probably would have cried my eyes out.”
Fireproof continues to be the most popular DVD available at Christian stores. It also was No. 5 in general retail stores and it was No. 7 in rentals in the most recent industry statistics.

Marriage Encounter
Here is a testimonial from Elaine and Sean Williams from New Jersey about the Worldwide Marriage Encounter (WWME) Weekend:
“My husband and I, married for five years, had been through some tough times. Very tough times, but my husband had recently gone on a vacation without me and during that time I went on line to view the WWME information. When he called me from Cancun, I asked if he wanted to try it. Little did I know that God was doing a work in him and he had decided that he wanted to be a better husband. To my delight he agreed to go.
“Tears fill my eyes when I think about the transformation that we BOTH went through. The setting was so warm, loving, and secure that we opened up to each other like we had never done before. My husband is very shy and does not open up easily. The men at the encounter were so unbelievable . . . and they were your typical men. Sports addicts, work-aholics, and not the normal touchy-feely type men. But they were such a great example for the men on the encounter.
“I will never forget the encounter and we have both decided to continue on with meetings and contact with the organization. You will not regret this!”
