‘Several aspects to being pro-life’
The Catholic Herald has had several columns recently urging Catholics to vote for pro-life candidates.
There are several aspects to being pro-life.
They include protecting healthcare, welcoming immigrants, protecting the environment (clean water, clean air), supporting racial equity, protecting voting rights for all, renouncing white supremacy, supporting tax equity, and working with scientists to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

‘Abortion is the preeminent moral issue’
We must make no mistake: Abortion is the preeminent moral issue of our time. It is the black hole that out-masses every other issue. Presenting any other issues as if they were proportionate to it is nothing but smoke and mirrors.
Pope Francis said, “Those who have been conceived are children of the whole of society. Their killing in huge numbers, with the endorsement of states, is a serious problem that undermines the foundations of the construction of justice, compromising the proper solution of any other human and social issue.”
Bishop Hying said, “I cannot vote for a presidential candidate who advocates for the continued legalization of abortion. If a candidate is fundamentally wrong on such a basic and preeminent human rights issue of grave consequence to the most innocent in our society and to our own future, how can I trust the candidate to make moral and prudent decisions on many other important social justice issues pertaining to the common good?”
Our priest, Fr. Miguel Galvez, said, “There is no single issue that threatens innocent human life more directly, consistently, imminently, and urgently than the deliberate killing of baby boys and baby girls in their mother’s womb. Nothing can justify the killing of just one innocent child”.
All of our good leaders agree and have been courageous in publicly speaking that the intrinsic evil of abortion, which kills one baby every 96 seconds, surpasses all other concerns we might have as voters.

Casting our votes on November 3
The Catholic Herald recently published a wonderful column written by Bishop Donald Hying regarding his guidance for Catholics voting in the election this November.
He cited various issues of importance for Catholics to consider but stated that he could never, in good conscience, vote for a pro-abortion candidate for office.
This year’s presidential election is between the most pro-life president in our nation’s history and a candidate who supports no restrictions on abortion whatsoever, right up to birth!
Along with our most excellent bishop, all of our parish priests should be telling their congregations of the importance of voting only for candidates who have pledged to defend the lives of the unborn.
Too many priests are afraid to inform their parishioners of their responsibility to vote in line with the teachings of the Church.
No wonder so many Catholics vote for candidates who favor abortion, gay marriage, and legislation threatening our religious freedoms.
We hunger to hear more priests taking a stand on moral matters facing our country at this crucial time!
Pope Francis has condemned abortion in the strongest terms possible and surely votes pro-life. Let’s all follow his lead, and that of our bishop, as we cast our votes on November 3!
