MADISON — Deacon Kumud Chandra Nayak is set to complete his journey to the priesthood.
The transitional deacon, currently assigned to St. Olaf Parish in DeForest, is scheduled to be ordained on Monday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. in the oratory at Holy Name Heights in Madison.
Bishop Donald J. Hying of Madison will celebrate the Mass.
The Mass is not open to the public. Only those with tickets — personal guests of Deacon Nayak — will be admitted.The Ordination Mass will be livestreamed at https://www.madisondiocese.org/live
Deacon Nayak was ordained to the transitional diaconate on April 15 of this year.
He is relatively new to the Diocese of Madison.
Deacon Nayak is the son of Pabitra and Sujan Nayak and is originally from Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Simonbadi, Orissa, India.
Before becoming a deacon in the Diocese of Madison, he was a Brother in the Canons Regular of Jesus the Lord-Russia.
Earlier this year, he said, “I am sincerely grateful to our beloved Bishop Donald Hying for accepting me to serve in his diocese, and my deepest gratitude to Msgr. James Bartylla, the vicar general, and Fr. Greg Ihm, the vocation director, who were instrumental in bringing me and the Canons Regular of Jesus the Lord to the Diocese of Madison.”
