BLOOMINGTON — A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, 535 Congress St., Bloomington, on Monday, March 5, at 12 noon for Fr. Philip John Krogman, 83, a retired priest of the Diocese of Madison, who died on March 1, 2018, at his home in Cassville.
Bishop Robert C. Morlino will celebrate the Mass with Very Rev. John Meinholz as homilist. Visitation at St. Mary Church will be held on Sunday, March 4, from 2 to 5 p.m., with a Prayer and Rosary Service beginning at 2 p.m., and on Monday, March 5, from 11 a.m. until the start of Mass.
Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Bloomington, will immediately follow. A funeral luncheon will take place in the St. Mary Church Hall after Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary Parish, Bloomington.
Father Krogman was born on June 13, 1934, in Bloomington, and is predeceased by his parents, Julia (Trumm) and Herman Krogman; his sister, Norma (Carl) Andrews; his brothers Jim (Mary), Ernie; and two infant brothers, Jerome and John Francis.
After attending St. Mary Grade School in Bloomington, Father Krogman entered the Salvatorian Seminary, St. Nazianz, Wis. He studied philosophy at St. John University, Collegeville, Minn., where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree.
He then continued with theology studies at St. John University, Collegeville, Minn. He further pursued his education at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he earned a Master’s in education psychology.
He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop William P. O’Connor on May 28, 1960, at St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison.
Father Krogman began serving in the Diocese of Madison as parochial vicar of St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison, and St. Mary Parish, Platteville. He was pastor of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Seymour, with the mission of St. Peter Parish, Elk Grove; St. Rose of Lima Parish, Cuba City; St. John the Baptist Parish, Princeton; St. Henry Parish, Watertown; Immaculate Conception Parish, Kieler; St. Paul Parish, Evansville; and Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Green Lake, from which he retired in January 2018.
During his years of service to the Diocese of Madison, Father Krogman served as chaplain to the Newman Apostolate at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville; chaplain to the Knights of Columbus Council 765, Cuba City, and Fr. Fliss Council, Berlin; chaplain of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Princeton; chaplain at the Redgranite Correctional Institution operated by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections; county dean; spiritual moderator of the Madison Diocesan Council of Catholic Women; member of the Clergy Development Board, and spiritual director and counselor for the Frontier Apostolate in the Diocese of Prince George, British Columbia, Canada.
Survivors include two brothers: Paul (Nelda) and Tom (Evie).
