STOUGHTON — Four St. Ann Parish families who make up the charity, Kids-4-Kids, will host a garage sale on Saturday, June 11, from 8 a.m. until 12 noon at 2225 Hilldale Cir. in Stoughton, to raise funds for area children in need.
Kids-4-Kids was created after three Stoughton families hosted a garage sale for their then seven-year-old friend, Ella Hembrook, who had to travel to Boston for specialized radiation treatments for a brain tumor.
The outpouring of love and support at the event touched the families so much that they decided to create Kids-4-Kids to help other local children and their families in difficult times.
A key component of Kids-4-Kids is that the kids in the four families (ranging in age from eight to 14) play a lead role in planning and carrying out each event. People who visit the garage sale will be asked to donate with their heart, which has become a cornerstone of the Kids-4-Kids charity.
A Christmas Family Fun Day was held in December to raise funds for the family of a local preschool teacher and principal who was severely injured in a car accident. The event raised more than anyone could have imagined.
“It was amazing to see how many people came out for our daughter Ella at our time of need. It was a beautiful reminder that when people are given the opportunity to help someone in need, regardless of whether they know them, they respond generously. Our charity’s goal is to continue to give people that opportunity,” said Kevin Hembrook, president of Kids-4-Kids.
Kids-4-Kids recently made a donation to a Stoughton family who has an infant with a rare chromosome condition.
For those who can’t attend the sale but would like to make a tax-deductible donation, send it to Kids-4-Kids, P.O. Box 141, Stoughton, WI 53589.
