The Diocese of Madison observed the 40th anniversary of Humanae Vitae with a variety of efforts. People in the diocese have an opportunity to continue the discussion as well.
Three St. Thérèse of Lisieux lectures were held throughout the year: “The Facts of Life & Marriage” with sociologist Bradford Wilcox in October of 2008; “The Biochemistry of Sex” with Vicki Thorn in February of 2009; and “Prove It, God! . . . And He Did” with Patty Schneier in April of 2009.
Resource packets are available on the Wilcox and Thorn lectures for parishes wishing to play the lectures and hold a local lecture/discussion group. Every event packet includes video content of the lectures, PowerPoint slides used by Dr. Wilcox; a facilitator check list; discussion questions and follow-up resources, and promotional items.
For a DVD and packet, contact the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis.
Other Humanae Vitae anniversary celebration highlights have included:
- Materials sent to all priests about Humanae Vitae, contraception, and Church teaching as well as a talk to priests by Fr. David McCaffrey.
- Five regional gatherings with parish educational staff along with a resource packet for parishes.
- Web pages and links on the diocesan site at madisondiocese.org/hv40
